Moving is hard. The apartment part doesn’t have to be.

Whether you’re relocating for a job, following a partner, starting over, or just seeing if San Diego is the right fit—Hillcrest Place is set up for people who are still figuring things out. No long-term commitment required. Real help with the transition.

Apply from anywhere

Sight-unseen applications accepted—no in-person tour required. Video tours are available on request. You don’t need to be in San Diego to start the process, and you don’t need to rush a decision during a weekend apartment hunt.

Month-to-month leases

Not sure how long you’re staying? Month-to-month is available—rare in Hillcrest. If you do sign a longer-term lease and your plans change, an early termination option is also available. The lease works with your timeline, not against it.

Personal tours with Rob

Tours are one-on-one with the property manager—not a leasing agent reading a script. Rob has been in Hillcrest for 10 years and moved to San Diego from the Bay Area. Ask about the neighborhood, the commute, the grocery situation, where to eat—the things that actually matter when you’re landing somewhere new.

Walk Score 93—live well from day one

You don’t need to learn the freeway system or figure out where everything is. Whole Foods is a 3-minute walk. Trader Joe’s and Ralph’s are under 10 minutes. Coffee, restaurants, pharmacy, post office, bank—all on foot. The neighborhood works before you know the city.

Next steps after signing

Rob provides a detailed move-in guide after your lease is signed—utility setup (SDG&E, internet options), parking, mail, building access, and neighborhood orientation. You’re not figuring it out alone.

Pet-friendly, no pet rent

Relocating with a pet? Indoor cats and small dogs up to 25 lbs are welcome. $300 refundable deposit per pet, maximum two. $0 monthly pet rent—a genuine differentiator in San Diego, where most apartments charge $25–75/month.

Why Hillcrest

Most San Diego neighborhoods require a car for daily life. Hillcrest is the exception. Three grocery stores—Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, and Ralph’s—are within a 10-minute walk. There are more than 10 coffee shops, dozens of restaurants, and the everyday essentials (pharmacy, post office, bank, dry cleaner) are all on foot. When you’re new to a city, that matters more than usual—you can function from day one without learning the freeway system or knowing which neighborhood has what.

Hillcrest has been one of San Diego’s most inclusive neighborhoods for decades—the heart of the city’s LGBTQ+ community, with a welcoming culture that extends to everyone. It’s a neighborhood where people walk, stop, and talk. Sunday farmers market a few blocks east. Restaurants that become regulars. A social scene that doesn’t require knowing anyone to participate.

And the location is central. Downtown is 5 minutes south. Balboa Park—1,200 acres of trails, museums, and the Zoo—borders the neighborhood to the south. The airport is about 10 minutes west. Beaches are 15 minutes. You’re not committing to a corner of the city; you’re in the middle of it, with easy access to everywhere else.

People relocating to San Diego often default to beach neighborhoods or downtown—and then discover the trade-offs. Beach communities are tourist-heavy, with the crowds and tourist traps that come with it. Downtown means Padres game traffic, road closures, and loud nightlife in the Gaslamp. Hillcrest has all the everyday conveniences—restaurants, groceries, coffee, nightlife—without the hassle of living in a tourist destination or a congested urban core. When you want the beach, it’s 15 minutes away. When you come home, you come home to a real neighborhood.
