Your setup, your call

The dining area in a one-bedroom doubles as a home office with room for a proper desk. Here’s what it can look like.

Built for the way you actually work

We didn’t design the building for remote workers—but the things that matter when your apartment is your office happen to be things we’ve offered all along.

High-speed internet, multiple providers

Cox and Google Fiber offer gigabit plans. AT&T has high-speed options. Over-the-air providers like Verizon are also available. When four-plus providers compete for your building, pricing and service tend to follow. For video calls and large uploads, a wired ethernet connection gives you the most consistent performance.

Cul-de-sac, off the main streets

Hillcrest Place sits on a cul-de-sac. No through traffic, no delivery trucks rumbling past during your standup. The building has a gated courtyard entry and no on-site leasing office—no foot traffic through the building either.

Courtyard for screen breaks

Step outside your door into a gated courtyard with palms, ferns, birds of paradise, and a gas BBQ. It’s not a park—it’s twenty steps from your desk. Lunch outside, afternoon coffee, or just a change of air.

Walk Score 93

Whole Foods is 3 minutes on foot. Trader Joe’s is 9. The post office, dry cleaner, pharmacy, and bank are all within walking distance. Run errands on your lunch break without touching a car.

Month-to-month leases

Remote work changes. Jobs change. Cities change. Month-to-month availability means you’re not locked into 12 months if your situation shifts. Rare in Hillcrest—we’ve always offered it.

Coffee shops everywhere

Sometimes you need to get out. Better Buzz has an upstairs workspace (4 min walk). Lestat’s is open until midnight. There are more than 10 options within walking distance—enough to rotate without repeating.

Studios work, too

The dining area in a studio has room for a desk setup. Smaller footprint, same internet, same courtyard out the door.

When you need a change of scenery

Every remote worker has days when the apartment walls close in. Here’s where to go.

The upstairs has tables, power outlets, and enough space to spread out. Good coffee, not too loud, and close enough to walk home for a meeting you forgot about.

Lestat’s Coffee House

Open until midnight. If your team is on East Coast time or you’re a night owl, this is the one. Been a Hillcrest fixture for years.

Outdoor tables, reliable Wi-Fi, and the predictability of a Starbucks when you just need a chair and a plug without thinking about it.

Hillcrest Brewing Company

13-minute walk · Afternoon pivot

Coffee shop vibes early, brewery vibes later. When your workday is done and you want to stay put, the transition happens naturally.

The courtyard patio—just steps from your front door

Mission Hills–Hillcrest/Knox Branch Library

When you need absolute quiet. Free Wi-Fi, no purchase required, and enough separation from home to actually focus.

What your lunch break looks like

The advantage of working from Hillcrest isn’t just the internet—it’s that your entire neighborhood is within walking distance.

Lunch without meal prep

Fish tacos at Oscar’s Mexican. Ramen at HiroNori. A sandwich from Board & Brew. Pizza from Tavola Nostra. Dozens of options, all walkable, all under 15 minutes round-trip.

Groceries on your break

Whole Foods is 3 minutes away. Trader Joe’s and Ralphs are under 10. Sunday farmers market at the DMV lot, 9–2. Stock your fridge without blocking a calendar slot.

Fitness between meetings

The Anvil Gym is a 6-minute walk. CorePower Yoga is at The Hub. Balboa Park’s trails are a short drive south. Squeeze in a workout without committing to a whole production.

End-of-day reset

When “logging off” needs to feel real, walk somewhere. Happy hour at Uptown Tavern. A sunset walk through the neighborhood. The courtyard BBQ. Close the laptop and be somewhere else in five minutes.
